Puducherry - Eco tourism

Pondicherry (or Puducherry), a French colonial settlement in India until 1954, is now a Union Territory town bounded by the southeastern Tamil Nadu state. Its French legacy is preserved in its French Quarter, with tree-lined streets, mustard-colored colonial villas and chic boutiques. A seaside promenade runs along the Bay of Bengal and passes several statues, including a 4m-high Gandhi Memorial.

Sailing in the Mangroves

It is the sport or activity of using boats with sails which employs the wind to propel a craft on the surface of the water over a chosen course, which is often part of a larger plan of navigation. The purpose of the sail, which is propped up by a mast, is to power the craft. A sailor, through adjusting the rudder, rigging (and, also, the keel and centreboard), can use the breeze on the sails to guide the vessel.

Instilling a sense of adventure of a young person is an important seed to plant. Sailboats are safe, but they are also a ticket to the wild unknown. Every kid who’smever sailed into an empty horizon has looked out and thought, “What if we kept going? Where would we end up?” Sailing takes us away from the normal and plants us firmly in an environment unfamiliar and foreign.

Fossil Walk

Petrified wood is the name given to a special type of fossilized remains of terrestrial vegetation. It is the result of a tree having turned completely into stone by the process of permineralization. The National Fossil Wood Park is a notified National Geo-heritage Monument

  • The park contains petrified wood fossils
  • Fossils are approximately 20 million years old
  • Believed the fossils were formed during massive flooding that occurred millions of years ago
  • Hosts about 200 fossilized trees
  • Strewn and partially buried in the park grounds
  • No branches or leaves remain on the fossilised trunks
