Why make a Telescope? Well, it’s fun, and in the process learn about telescope- parts and nomenclature, lens, mirror and principles of optics. This telescope will be used by school and Astronomy club students during astronomy and stargazing evenings.

- The “light bucket” is a favourite among the amateurs and professional astronomers alike for its robust simplicity and is economical
- It is an altazimuth-mounted Newtonian telescope design popularized by John Dobson
Activities Performed During the program:
Group introduction, equipment familiarization and allotment, understanding the numbers, Precautions to take, assembly begins and Understanding the working of the telescope, assembly continues, woodwork starts. Assembly completes, remove assembly start paintwork, and leave it overnight for drying Second coat of paint leaves it for dry, Presentation on important things to consider while using the telescope. Assembly of the telescope, collimation, alignment, first light ceremony. Final touch-ups, evening first light ceremony.
Particulars
- Group size: Max 8 students can work in one group
- Minimum telescopes to be made: 4
- Minimum group size 32 students
- Duration of the program: 8 hours per day for 6 days or 8 hours
- for 4 days and 10 hours on day 5
OUTCOMES
- The core of our programme is for the children to develop their “Non-Cognitive Skills ” of Character Building along with fun, immersive experience for the students, that can’t be replicated in the classroom
- Through various activities, children develop initiative and critical thinking skills, blossom friendships, instigate the value of integrity, work as a team and help them to collaborate and communicate with others, know the importance of decision making and create Mettle.
